Problems with Processing Messages

The MCS will process up to 100 attachments per email received. The time it takes to process a read request is usually a matter of seconds, depending on the length of the document. The time it takes to process a print request depends on the availability and reception-speed of the destination fax machine. Communication to the fax machine usually begins in under two minutes.

If you are receiving any kind of engine failure Alerts, or nothing at all, contact Onset support. If you are receiving other types of Alerts regarding the processing of any message, read them and check the following:

  • Is the format supported by the MCS? The MCS currently converts most versions of the following file formats: Read and Print - txt, rtf, doc, wpd, htm, html, xls, csv, wk1, wk3, wk4, wks, url, vcf, zip, ics, tif, pcx, dcx, jpg, jpeg, bmp, ppt, pdf, wmf, mpp; Print only - gif, pps, Visio
  • Are all necessary third-party software applications installed correctly? Check the system requirements in Chapter 2. Make sure Office 2000 is installed with all converters and filters, and is installed to Run All from My Computer. Note that this is not the default installation setting. While logged in as the MCS domain user account, open each of the Office applications and close all start-up or first-use configuration dialogs. Select any Do not show this dialog again options and permanently hide or turn off any Office Assistants.
  • Does the console Engines tab show the necessary flow types are installed and activated? Select the checkboxes for needed flow types.

If Office application attachments are not converting properly, do the following:

  1. Make sure all Office 2000 suite applications are installed on the MCS machine.
  2. If the problem persists, open the MCS console Engine Hosts tab.
  3. Double-click on a Read flow type.
  4. In the Host Properties dialog, check the Capabilities listing.
  5. If Office 2000 applications are not listed, logon to the server as the domain user account under which the MCS service runs.
  6. In the Start menu, click Run.
  7. Launch the DCOM Configuration program by entering dcomcnfg in the Run dialog and clicking OK.
  8. Click on the Default Security tab.
  9. In the Default Access Permissions group, click Edit Default...
  10. Add the MCS domain user account with the Allow Access access type.
  11. Exit the DCOM configuration dialogs and reboot the computer.
  12. Start the MCS service and repeat steps 2-4.
  13. All MS Office Suite applications should be listed.
