Windows 2000 SP4/2003 - "Error extracting support files"
Java Client
Windows 2003 - "METAmessage Printer failed to install"
Configuring a Genifax Print Flow
During METAmessage setup in a Windows 2000 SP4/2003 environment, an error message: "Error extracting support files" appears.
From the METAmessage CD or download Setup Utils folder, run ikernelupdate.exe and then restart the METAmessage setup. This will ensure compatible MFC file versions. This is a known issue with METAmessage version 4.2 and will be corrected in a future release.
During METAmessage Java client (BlackBerry models 58x0 and higher) installation, the setup program stops and indicates that handheld applications must be installed.
OR
During METAmessage Java client (BlackBerry models 58x0 and higher) installation, the RIM Application Loader displays a message, "No system software was found for your handheld" or "No additional applications designed for your handheld were found."
RIM handheld applications, available on your BlackBerry CD or via download from your carrier, must be installed on your desktop in order to be able to install BlackBerry Attachments Service, Tasks, and third-party applications like the METAmessage client on your handheld. For detailed instructions, visit http://www.blackberry.com/support/pdfs/upgrade_instructions_ nt.pdf.
Check your BlackBerry CD or contact your carrier for RIM system software for your device. Install it on your desktop and then install the METAmessage client. Visit this page for help connecting to your carrier.
If you are installing METAmessage onto a Windows 2003 server and encounter an error dialog stating "the METAmessage Printer failed to install", you can add the METAmessage Printer after the Setup completes. - In the Run dialog Open field, enter MMC and click OK.
- In the Console menu, choose Add/Remove snap-in.
- Click Add...
- In the Add Standalone Snap-In dialog, highlight Group Policy Object Editor and click Add.
- In the Select Group Policy Object dialog, click Finish.
- In the Add Standalone Snap-In dialog, click Close.
- In the Add/Remove Snap-in dialog, click OK.
- In the new Console Root\Local Computer Policy window, choose Local Computer Policy, Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, and Printers.
- Disable Disallow installation of printers using kernel-mode drivers.
- Close MMC.
Step 2: Install the METAmessage Printer
- Stop the METAmessage service and close the METAmessage console.
- Run n:\Program Files\METAmessage\Setup Utils\PD_Inst.exe.
- Reboot the computer
- In the Control Panel/Printers dialog, verify that the METAmessage Printer is installed and is the default printer.
