Problems with Getting Messages

The MCS displays the number of received messages with a counter in the Source protocols column of the console Flows tab. If the counter is not showing activity, check the following:

  • Is the service started in the console Control tab?
  • Are you sending to the correct e-mail address for that function? [sending what, and what function?]
  • Is the MCS configured to get messages from the correct database or mailbox?
  • Does the NT account that the MCS service runs under have the proper access permissions to the database or mailbox?
  • If using Exchange, is the profile that the MCS points to pointing to the correct Exchange mailbox?
  • If using Exchange, were the Outlook profiles created while the MCS service NT account was logged onto the machine?
  • Are messages getting to the mail database or profile to which you are sending them? Can you see them in the appropriate inbox?

If MAPI logon errors occur after starting the service, check the following:

  • Is the domain user under which the MCS service runs associated with all mailboxes created in Exchange?
  • Are the profiles used by the MCS properly connected to the correct mailboxes?
  • Were the profiles created while the MCS domain user was logged onto the MCS machine?
  • Can you open the Outlook client on the MCS server machine and send and receive mail from all profiles created while the MCS domain user is logged onto the machine?
